Insights

Mexican manufacturing and export logistics

Evergreen articles for procurement teams sourcing auto parts from Mexico.

  • Why European distributors are sourcing auto parts from Mexico

Mexico is one of the largest auto parts producers in the world, and its manufacturers build to the specifications of North American vehicle programmes. For European distributors, that capacity is now within direct reach.

    Read the article

Mexico's automotive industry has grown around the assembly plants of North America, and its parts manufacturers produce to original-equipment specification for those programmes. The same factories supply the domestic and North American aftermarket, which is why brands such as Moresa, Fritec, Gonher and Rassini have been trusted there for decades.

The scale of that industry is measurable. In the first half of 2025, Mexico supplied 43.48% of all US auto parts imports, the largest share on record, according to INA, Mexico's National Auto Parts Industry association.

For a European distributor, sourcing from Mexico means access to that production base at factory-direct prices, with an export partner handling consolidation, documentation and freight to Rotterdam, Antwerp, Hamburg, Valencia, Barcelona or Genoa.

  • Incoterms explained for auto parts importers

The Incoterm on your quotation decides who arranges and pays for each leg of the journey, and where the risk passes from seller to buyer. A short guide to the five terms we quote under.

    Read the article

EXW (Ex Works): the goods are made available at our consolidation point in Puebla. The buyer arranges collection, export clearance and all freight. Suitable for importers with their own forwarder in Mexico.

FOB (Free On Board): we deliver the goods on board the vessel at the Mexican port of departure, export cleared. Risk passes once the goods are on board; the buyer arranges sea freight, insurance and import clearance.

CIF (Cost, Insurance and Freight): we arrange and pay for sea freight and insurance to the named European port. Risk still passes at the port of departure, so the buyer should check the insurance cover matches their needs.

DAP (Delivered At Place): we deliver to the named destination, for example your warehouse, with the buyer responsible only for import duties, taxes and unloading.

DDP (Delivered Duty Paid): we deliver to your warehouse with import duties and taxes paid. The simplest option for the buyer, and the one that requires the most coordination with our European customs agents.

Every quotation states its Incoterm. If your purchasing policy requires a specific term, tell us when you send your parts list.

  • How consolidated shipments lower your landed cost

Landed cost is the price of a part plus everything it takes to get it onto your shelf. Consolidating several brands and categories into one container reduces the second half of that equation.

    Read the article

A distributor sourcing brake pads from one manufacturer, filters from another and gaskets from a third would normally pay for three separate export clearances, three sets of documents and three partial freight charges. Consolidation combines them into one shipment.

At our consolidation point in Puebla, product from several manufacturers is inspected, palletised and loaded into a single container with one commercial invoice, one packing list and one certificate of origin per shipment.

The result is a higher container utilisation, one customs entry at destination and a single freight charge spread across the full order. For mixed-category orders this is standard practice, not an exception, and it is reflected in every quotation we issue.
